On the previously black-primed canvases, Stephanie SĂ¼ĂŸenbach captures what humans have created over the course of their history. These are significant architectural structures or places, but also sculptures and works of art in general. She reproduces these diverse yet highly expressive motifs with charcoal and emphasizes or alters the subject depending on her preference. In this way, she presents something seemingly familiar in a completely new and exclusive manner, which can only be fully appreciated upon a second look. The motif reveals itself to the viewer only through a profound engagement with the canvas, as not every detail is immediately recognizable. Just as the artist herself delves deeply into the individual motifs and their creators, it is also necessary to do so with her works.
